Antique jewelry boxes are considered collector’s item as they are hand made by craftsmen. Modern jewelry boxes are mostly massed produced. However you can still find ones made by craftsmen. We do see these especially at the local arts and crafts jewelry fairs during the weeks leading up to Christmas. You should be able to find one in your area. Other places to look for used jewelry boxes are at garage sales, flea markets and antique shows.

When selecting a jewelry box, keep the following in mind:
– the inside of the box should have some sort of silk or velvet lining to protect your jewelries.
– make sure it is air tight (the lid and box should fit snuggly)
– chose one that is reflective of your personality
– within your price range
– one large box to house all your jewelries or many smaller boxes or drawered boxes
– if you have many rings, you may want to look for slots inside the box. It keeps the rings in one place
– some jewelry box plays music when you open them up

A jewelry box, just like the jewelry it holds, is your personal statement of who you are. When you pass your jewelries down to the next generation, the jewelry box will also be passed. It itself will contain memories as well. The jewelry box will a tell your story, your legacy and will be cherished in future generations just like you are holding an antique jewelry box from days gone by.
